DaM Academy: ‘Incubator’ Disabled Artist Call Out

Please note, the application deadline is Friday 23rd May

DaM Academy is a programme of work led by Marina Studios. Driven by access and inclusivity, DaM Academy is designed to increase opportunities for young people and early career artists to make, see and benefit from Dance and Movement. ‘Incubator’ is a scheme to support disabled artists within DaM Academy. We want to continue our investment in disabled artists and dance makers as part of our development as an accessible and inclusive space through our relationships with Stopgap Dance and Parable Dance.

For 2025 we are looking to support one disabled artist to develop an early idea during May-July 2025. We are looking for someone who is at the start of making a new piece of dance that is intended for theatre, dance film or outdoors audiences.

The support is not intended to create a finished work but to give you the best start in planning and developing an early idea before you go into a creation phase.

What is involved?

  • Bursary Opportunity: The successful applicant will receive a bursary of £500, providing financial support to facilitate the research and development of their artistic vision.
  • Studio Space at a Reduced Rate: Participants will have access to a conducive environment at Marina Studios where they can explore and experiment, and refine their ideas.
  • Allocated Mentor Time: The successful applicant will receive nine hours of mentoring to help develop their ideas, plan how they might access further funding, think about how to devise a creation process either in person or online (via Zoom/Teams) from someone we will ‘match make’ you with. This could be a choreographer, a producer or other specialists with skills in supporting artists to develop.
  • Profile on Marina Studios Website: The successful applicant will have their name and work profiled on our website.
